Black Pearl: black granite, chosen for its sparkle

Most black granites are bought for how uniform and flat-black they are — Absolute Black and Jet Black lean that way deliberately. Black Pearl is the opposite decision: a deep black ground scattered with silver mica flecks and, in some blocks, occasional gold-toned mineral inclusions. It’s quarried in Andhra Pradesh and sold specifically for that visible sparkle rather than for uninterrupted flatness.

What it looks like

A fine-grained black background with silver flecking distributed unevenly across the surface — denser in some areas, sparser in others, which is what gives each slab its own character rather than a repeatable, printable pattern. Some lots run with a warmer gold cast to the flecking; others stay purely silver. If the sparkle density matters to your design, it’s worth selecting against the actual slab rather than a sample chip.

Where the flecking actually helps, practically

A perfectly flat black granite shows every scratch and every trace of dust as a visible break in the surface. The broken, speckled pattern in Black Pearl is more forgiving of exactly that kind of everyday wear — fine scuffs and dust disappear into the pattern far more easily than they would on Absolute Black. That’s a real, practical reason to choose it for a high-traffic kitchen island rather than a purely aesthetic one.

Where it works

Kitchen countertops and islands — especially under pendant or under-cabinet lighting, where the mica catches light directly — bathroom vanities, feature walls, and flooring in lower-traffic areas.

Finish and care

Polished is the natural choice for a countertop, since it’s the finish that makes the flecking sparkle. For a floor with heavier foot traffic, honed is more practical — it disguises the fine scratching a polished floor accumulates over years far better. Care is standard for granite: clean with a pH-neutral product, avoid harsh acids, and reseal every one to two years to maintain stain resistance against oil and turmeric.
